Let me start by saying this meeting was packed with happenings! We officially installed the new officers and directors for 2026, both new and returning. We had a couple of stand-out members share some achievements with us, and we had more food than we can even remember.
Check out our Leadership page under the About tab for individual pictures of everyone! Eventually, I hope to collect small, mouse-over blurbs about everyone so that all members can learn a little bit about their leaders.

For an idea of what we do for OSGL, the officers are all in charge of the committees that run official society business. We have Elections, Public Relations, Banquet, Scholarship, Membership and Finance. The Elections committee is in charge of nominations and electing new officers and directors annually. Finance pays for our food, events, and supplies by keeping track of investments, dues, and fees. Membership is in charge of nominating and approving new members who can prove their relationship to the founding members. Banquet has all the fun of choosing the venue and menu for each of our meetings and collecting feedback a la blog comments below. And finally, Public Relations brings you things like this website, our instagram, e-mails, and, hopefully more this year and in the future, more events that publicize OSGL, who we are, and what we do for our members and community. Can you tell which two committees I serve on yet?

We had a couple of very special members share some achievements with us too! First, I'd like to extend my congratulations to Ernest Chang for being nominated as an Honorary Director! This is a non-voting lifetime position that bestows recognition for these members' contributions to Oo Syak over the years. It's all the glory and none of the work (anymore)! So thank you, Ernest, for everything you've done to preserve this society and make it what it is today.

Another member very proudly went around to every table to showcase his art with us! Talent in the traditional arts is hard to come by these days so it's important to recognize it when you see it. Long-time member, Leonard Chang, is the artist in question and hopes the New York Museum of Modern Art sees this post. Leonard, I can't promise that kind of publicity, but at least the members who couldn't see your work can see it here! Click on the pictures to expand. I apologize they're not archival quality, but I wasn't expecting to have to scan in works of art at lunch today!
Our two newest directors were also sworn in today. We welcome Cathy Nelson and Jennifer Chang to the 2026 team! We look forward to putting you to work! Just kidding. Mostly. It's a labor of love and we have a lot of fun doing it!
And with the business out of the way, we got down to the real business of enjoying each other's company over some great food! Today was at Fook Yuen Seafood Restaurant and they served a phenomenal menu of 8 dishes!
All in all, it was a very enjoyable meeting! We, the officers and directors, hope to see more faces at our events and meetings. I also took the time to ask everyone to feel free to leave feedback on the menu or suggestions for restaurants by leaving comments below, through any of our Banquet Committee members, or via email! And, since I'm also on Public Relations, I am also welcoming suggestions for member activities and events! We do parades and picnics, but I'd like to extend our repertoire to collaborations with other organizations, service projects, and cultural enrichment. If anyone has any culturally relevant talents or interests and would like to host a class, for example, that would make a great activity for members to enjoy! Leave a comment below to let us know!
